Bringing both good and harm, social media should be used thoughtfully.

In this rapidly growing world, social media offers the ease of connecting with your friends and family and expressing yourself. But they also come with risks, especially for people in the workforce.

HR employers tend to use social media to screen candidates for illegal acts or behaviors. And, while employees may post something after working hours, the content of the post might bring harm to the their or the company’s reputation. An example of this occurrence is the “Elmo poop meme story” that went viral on the internet some time ago.

So, while social media is a platform to express yourself, it will be better if you do it thoughtfully.

Employees rarely like meetings, and it is for a good reason.

Meetings, when not managed properly, could stretch out for hours while the topic could run off course. Not to mention other reasons like an over-contributing co-worker, centralized decision making, subtle power play, or the absence of action after voicing out concerns. Also, creating more meetings will not make employees become more engaged.

So, how do you make meetings more engaging?
-Be clear about the meeting agenda and make sure every participant knows. Having a clear agenda not only makes what will be discussed obvious but also allows employees included in the meeting to prepare thoroughly.
-Manage meetings professionally. Manage meetings as if you are having one with a very important figure. Let members of the meeting know that participations are highly encouraged. Listen to each member’s opinion and keep everybody respectful.
-Follow up with employees’ concerns. Listen to employees’ concerns and come up with actionable solutions. Employees will quickly get fed up if you only listen but not do anything about the concerns.

With Globalization 4.0 and rapid changes in the workforce, company needs to integrate people enablement to HR so they can empower employees’ growth. It is time for HR to be more than just administration and payrolls.

Adopting people enablement to HR means giving them access to technology, process, and content to develop and improve employees. This includes changing the company’s approach into a people-first approach and including them to the boardroom with C-level executives. Employees cannot develop themselves if the company has not deemed them as an integral part of its future. HR also cannot maximize employees’ development if they are not included in the company’s strategic plan.

[Mastering Social Media]⠀

DigiHR has successfully wrapped up a 2-day Social Media Bootcamp “Mastering Social Media” on November 22-23, 2019.


On Day 1, the session was delivered by Laurensia Octavia (@laurensiaocta ), Co-Founder and Social Media Manager at Go Digital Consultant. In this session, Lauren helps participants to understand about social media channels, strategy, and content, including how they can apply the knowledge to their roles or business through engaging exercises and feedbacks.⠀

On Day 2, Laurensia Octavia led the first session which focuses on understanding KPI and creating social media reports. Participants were asked to determine their brand’s KPI in an exercise and present their work, and Lauren gave them advices and feedbacks.⠀

The second session was led by Aziman Fadhli (@azimen ), Content Strategist Manager at Leverate Media Asia. He guided participants into the world of influencers and influencer marketing, and they shared their experience and concerns about influencers.⠀

Employee advocates and brand ambassadors are employees representing your company to spread words about your company to the market, including talent market. These employees have strong impacts because others are more likely to believe in your employees, especially regarding how they are treated in your company. But, having employee advocates and brand ambassadors can only be achieved through a harmonious work between your employer branding and Employee Value Proposition.

To have a great employer branding and EVP, your company needs to define the values that are important. Because those values will become the company’s goals and culture, both of which will attract similar-minded talents to your company. But, remember to keep your company branding authentic as overselling will harm the company’s growth and lower your chance of attracting top talents.

Having an engaged team boosts the members' engagement and ensure a supportive, team-oriented work environment. But it's not an easy task to get people to be engaged in their teams.

As an HR, what can you do to create a change? The answer is to get team members to be invested in their teams, and here are some ideas to do so:
✔️Encourage team leaders to create duties requiring teamwork. Ask leaders to encourage their members to work collaboratively.
✔️Encourage team leaders to acknowledge and celebrate acts of teamwork, no matter how big or small. They can bring those up during a team meeting to further encourage teamwork.
✔️Encourage team leaders to reward teamwork and team output through coworkers appreciation programs. It doesn't have to be grand, just a simple thank you note works.
✔️Encourage team leaders to work alongside their teams to develop a sense of shared values and purpose. This also creates bonding opportunities for leaders to better know the members and what's happening in the team.
✔️Encourage team leaders and team members to think about what's good from a team perspective. It encourages teamwork and more output on the table, and also prevents apathy from running deep.
