One of my south India indulgences. As our weather gets colder and the daylight decreases here, I begin to visualize the Indian heat (during their winter season of course! 🥵) and the sweet mornings of sadhana and Indian coffee. When things are busy and my practice reduces, taking five minutes to daydream calms my mind and brings me joy. The trick is to not get stuck in the daydream and the story you can tell yourself about how you wish things were. Live your life, and do what is put in front of you to do. Take joy in the happy moments of your life. Even though those moments pass, the good news is that life is transient and new happy moments will come again. Learn from the uncomfortable moments, celebrate the desired outcomes, use both to reflect on and learn about who you are. This is the process of Karma, Bhakti and Jnana Yoga. May you be safe, may you be happy, may you live with ease and peace today and always.

Non lo so, vorrei partecipare al dibattito #leaveyogaalone ma allo stesso tempo non so ancora bene cosa pensare..che a me lo yoga in verità ha insegnato a meditare, prima di esprimere un opinione, che è sempre un giudizio pur cambiandogli il nome; certo è che trovo giusto sottolineare gli aspetti profondi e la sacralità che questa pratica rappresenta, ma anche giudicare e accanirsi tutti insieme contro una persona presa a simbolo di una crociata proprio “yogico” non è!! Io ho imparato che lo yoga è esperienza e relazione..due cose che avvengono nella realtà quotidiana tra esseri umani quindi probabilmente discutere di cosa sia e di cosa non sia lo yoga davanti uno schermo su una piattaforma virtuale comincia ad avere sempre meno senso per me..ogni tanto vado in profondo contrasto su cosa e su come voglio condividere qui quello che faccio, che il solo pensiero di “vendere” lo yoga mi fa sentire sporca, ma vero è anche, che oltre ad essere la mia ancora di salvezza è il mio lavoro!!
E diciamocela la verità..parliamo di etica e di sacralità e poi un mensile di yoga spesso costa un occhio della testa e la facciamo diventare una pratica elitaria, oppure scattiamo foto alla fine della pratica mentre si è in savasana o video mentre la classe pratica..a quale scopo?! E dove vanno a finire l’intimità e la sacralità della pratica?!
Per non parlare di lezioni che durano 60 minuti e poi le specifiche e gli approfondimenti sono workshop, ritiri, retreat, e training che si pagano a parte!!
E si..Ahimsa è il primo yama, il più importante ma Distacco e Non-attaccamento non mi sembrano ben rappresentate su questo social, “sedicenti” insegnanti e non che si fanno scattare foto da fotografi professionisti e che si compiacciono della loro immagine e del numero di like e di followers che aumentano di conseguenza!!
Non lo so, ho più domane che risposte, sono davvero troppe le contraddizioni e io di dire la mia ancora non me la sento, che l’Ego e la presunzione di pensare di avere la verità in tasca vanno a braccetto..mi faccio piuttosto un bell’esame di coscienza, che non mi sento proprio si scagliare la prima pietra!!

在不丹旅行時,曾看見一段文字對話。苦惱的人問佛陀,「我想快樂!」佛說:「放下『我』,放下『想』。」 人生在世,無論身體、財富、觀點或修行,都有一個我。尋尋覓覓,「我是誰」?放下「我」,放下「誰」,答案自然浮現。有如褪去重擔、告別過往,甚至下決心割捨一段情之後的長嘆,都讓人覺得輕盈而空廣。

這可能是為什麼我喜歡下雨天的原因吧?雲,終於不再承受著層層積壓,願意消散淚流,滋潤春泥。

這就捨離(Vairagya)。瑜伽中重要的修煉方法,也是唯一的方向。 ****天氣冷了,大家要保暖啊:)**** When I was travelling in Bhutan, there was a printout about a dialogue between a man and Buddha. “I want to be happy” the man asked.
“Just let go of I and WANT”Buddha said.

There is a “I” embedded in body, fortune, perspective and even in spiritual pursuit searching for who I am. Drop “I” and “Who”, the answer is revealed by itself. Just like relieved from mental burden, saying goodbye to the past and even determined to end a lingering relationship, it cleans out a space for breathe-in.
Perhaps this is the reason why I like raining days so much. The sky finally let go of the burden and offer herself to nurture the earth.
This is Vairagya, so called detachment or dispassion, that is an essential practice and the only direction in Yoga.
It's getting cold here and keep warm, my dear friends: )

last weekend it was my one year anniversary of being a full time yoga teacher in San Francisco. WOW. In November of 2018 I was miserable working in a job I didn’t belong in and teaching yoga at nights and on weekends. When things were especially difficult I would sneak away into conference rooms/call rooms at the office and first cry and then read the Bhagavad Gita and Ram Dass and listen to my teacher @stephaniesnyderyoga’s meditations on @yogaglo. And that helped. And I got pretty skillful at doing things I didn’t particularly like, or find stimulating, and that didn’t empower me - all while remaining (for the most part) pretty cool and together. At some point though I realized that I was sneaking away to call rooms to read sacred texts, to listen to empowering talks/meditations, and to find the teachings in the difficulty SO OFTEN (haha) that it was time to take a look at what I was doing with my life. I decided in November of 2018 that on January 1st 2019 I would quit and start teaching full time. Which terrified me. I began spending 100% of my free time reaching out to studios, reaching out to literally everyone I knew inquiring if they would want private’s or corporates, building a website, and making a plan for how the hell I would survive as a full time teacher in the most expensive city in the USA.
On November 30th, I was fired. Thank you God. I had a plan to leave in Jan and god’s was just one month earlier. Ha! I remember feeling so embarrassed, so defeated, like a freaking FAILURE. But, I took a leap of faith and said “fuck it. I’m going for it”. And here we are one year later. And I’m more alive than ever. And I’m excited for the many years ahead to mature, learn, and grow with this evolving practice.
This post is to say go for it. Go. For. It. Go for it. don’t hold back. Let loose and just jump in. Have faith in this practice and have faith in what lights you up.
THANK YOU to all of those who have supported me and cheered me on, especially to my generous, wise, & committed teachers, to all of those who have practiced with me, and to all of you on here near and far.

#abhyasa and #vairagya are two sides of the coin and are important concepts of yoga practice. every yoga practice must include equal amount of these two elements. Abyasa refers to the #willpower , persistence and the effort to stay with your practice even when its uncomfortable. And Vairaya refers to letting go and nonattachment meaning that you put your effort but you let go of the result. You dont need to push yourself to be perfect. The non-attachment refers to detaching from your practice as well as other belongings of your life. As my teacher always says, its a little of NO to YES.
Yoga philosophy should be part of the practice and the Asanas which are the physical exercises are the tip of the iceberg while the philosophy and #pranayama are the foundations.

No, not viagra.
Vairagya is the sanskrit term for detachment.
I felt like this would be an appropriate topic to address since it was just Black Friday and everyone is rushing out to get the best deal on materialistic "things." We have created a society that thrives on the newest and the best gadgets, clothes, toys, appliances, TVs, furniture, etc. When we feel the constant need to keep up with the Jonses, it creates chaos in our lives and our bodies.
What if we told our children that they get one small gift for Christmas instead of the mountain of gifts that are usually under the tree Christmas morning. What if instead of buying "things" we let go of the need for materialistic items and volunteered somewhere to help those in need.
The idea of detachment doesn't just apply to "things" it applies internally as well. It is also letting go of feelings such as pride, ego and fear. Once we are able to free ourselves of these nuisances we are able to better able to discern between essential and non essential.
Once we can truly practice detachment we are on the quickest route to self realization.

Die Weihnachtszeit darf besinnlich sein. Mit allen Sinnen erleben was ist. Seit langem fühlt sich das wirklich stimmig an. So manche harte Nuss zeigt sich in diesen Tagen und will geknackt werden. It’s been some time since I learned how to press up from Chaturanga Dandasana without doing the worm...in other words, with the torso, pelvis, legs as one fierce unit. Our blessed Saturday teacher was relentless that day. With her tremendous sequencing and clear demonstrating, I thought it stuck with me. Thing is, it’s quite difficult and most certainly not a piece of the puzzle to leave out of practice. I have been testing the waters now and again...and was recently reminded by @jenni_rawlings helpful post about it. She makes it look easy.😳A combo of not visiting it enough and my wonky sacrum, low back...elusive core connection from planes, trains, automobiles and my work bench make this feel impossible at the moment. " #MARKATA- #VAIRAGYA- #RENUNCIATION LIKE THAT OF A #MONKEY." #Caitanya #Caritamrta- Antya 2.120 Translation and Purport: "There are many persons with little in their possession who accept the renounced order of life like monkeys. They go here and there engaging in #sense #gratification and speaking intimately with women." One should strictly follow the regulative principles, namely no illicit sex, no meat-eating, no intoxication and no gambling, and in this way one should make progress in spiritual life. If an unfit person sentimentally accepts vairāgya or takes sannyāsa but at the same time remains attached to women, he is in a very dangerous position. His renunciation is called markaṭa-vairāgya, or renunciation like that of a monkey. The monkey lives in the forest, eats fruit and does not even cover itself with a cloth. In this way it resembles a saint, but the monkey always thinks of female monkeys and sometimes keeps dozens of them for sexual intercourse. This is called markaṭa-vairāgya. Therefore one who is unfit should not accept the renounced order of life. One who accepts the order of sannyāsa but again becomes agitated by sensual disturbances and talks privately with women is called dharma-dhvajī or #dharma-kalaṅka, which means that he brings condemnation upon the religious order. Therefore one should be extremely careful in this connection. Śrīla #Bhaktisiddhānta #Sarasvatī #Ṭhākura explains the word markaṭa to mean "restless." A restless person cannot be steady; therefore he simply wanders about, gratifying his senses. Just to get praise from others, to get cheap adoration from his followers or people in general, such a person sometimes accepts the dress of a sannyāsī or bābājī in the renounced order, but he cannot give up desires for sense gratification, especially for the association of women. Such a person cannot make advancement in spiritual life. There are eight different kinds of sensual enjoyment with women, including talking about them and thinking about them. Thus for a sannyāsī, a person in the renounced order, talking intimately with women is a great offense.

Segundo o sūtra 1.12 dos Yoga Sūtras de Patañjali, as modificações mentais #vritt são restringidas com prática #abhyasa e desapego #vairagya ✨Abhyāsa vairāyābhyām tannirodhah ✨ .

Ao ouvir sobre desapego, muitos alunos questionam sobre o fato de recomendarmos a prática de #ashtangayoga 6x por semana e perguntam se isso é ter apego à prática, afirmando que deveríamos praticar o #desapego . Nos dois sūtras seguintes 1.13 e 1.14 Patañjali já dá uma resposta a esse questionamento quando diz que: . ✨ a #pratica para restringir as modificações mentais devem ser contínua, não somente por um dia ou dois. Devemos estar sempre atentos, não somente por alguns minutos, permitindo que a mente tenha domínio sobre todo o restante do dia. O que ele, Patanjali, pede é que sejamos um observador constante e isso só ocorre por intermédio da prática. Devemos estar sempre atento a cada pensamento, palavra e ação. ✨Tatra Sthitau Yatno’bhyāsah ✨ . 💥Patañjali nos pede uma prática constante por um longo período de tempo, SEM interrupções e com TOTAL dedicação. 😰 ✨Sa tu dirgha kāla nairantarya satkārāsevito drdhabhūmih ✨

Algumas pessoas questionam a eficácia do Yoga afirmando que já praticam há bastante tempo (meses ou 1, 2, 3, 4 anos) e não percebem as mudanças e resultados na mente. Ou alguns afirmam que praticam há mais de 10 anos e quando questionados com que frequência, afirmam: “entre 2 ou 3x por semana” e outros dizem: “de vez em quando.” 😑 . ✨Devemos fugir do resultado imediato (da maneira como nos acostumamos fazer quando somos crianças). Uma semente que é plantada hoje, deve ser regada por um longo período de tempo até que se transforme em uma árvore que quem sabe um dia gerará frutos. Imediatismo e Yoga não combinam. O corpo, talvez para algumas pessoas, sente os resultados primeiramente e talvez seja uma motivação para permanecer em busca de algo mais. Mas, o que acontece quando, depois de um tempo, não se percebe grandes ganhos ou mudanças corporais? Não pode haver desmotivação para continuar. Por que? ⚡️ Porque o acesso e transformação dos padrões mentais é mais difícil. Não ocorre do dia pra noite e exige o que Patañjali pede em relação a prática. >>

Guruji calls Abhyasa and Vairagya the two wings for progress in yoga.
There are a lot of positions that I practice that I’ve not been taught . I am not waiting for someone to tell me what to do or give some kind of permission. It’s not needed. I’ve been at this a long time now. Over twenty years ago, I started Iyengar yoga as a teenager and was encouraged to go forward. I found Iyengar yoga and I loved it. The more the fire of interest burned, the more material (lessons, postures, texts, workshops, Therapeutics, philosophy, encouragement and criticism) was handed to me. My very first teacher, Laurie Blakeney, allowed me to even attend level 3 class with students and teachers of decades of experience when I was young and in my early years of study. She didn’t say no. In those college years I was getting up early for my own pranayama and asana practice which caused me to not drink or party with peers. It was another path. Youth and energy was invested in classes learning drop backs into Dwi Pada Viparita Dandasana, Inversion variations, studying Sanskrit, reading all the yoga philosophy books in the U of M library. . Certainly this changed the course of my life. When I moved to San Francisco after college graduation to study with my teacher Manouso he soon allowed me to assist his classes though probably I was not very helpful then. I had a ton of interest. He told me a couple of years ago, when my confidence was faltering, “YOU can do EVERYTHING”. He hasn’t held me back. He keeps showing me ways forward. I don’t need anyone to hold my hand to get into these poses: the potential is already within me. The teacher has the power to show a way forward and instill hope that sustained practice creates change and transformation. The keys are in the thousands of hours of training and practices. While conditions of the present are always evolving, there is potential to be present, super aware, to see the way forward even when it’s a way we’ve never taken before. En la medida que sueltas (juicios, agenda, dar atención a cosas que en verdad no la merecen) puedes conectar de verdad contigo, con tu chispa, con tu niñ@ [email protected] Nota en tu cuerpo si estás aguantando o sosteniendo, lo sabrás porque estás como aguantando un peso real que no está: brazos tensos, cuello tieso, te mueves con dificultad como si el peso estuviera arrastrándose contigo.
Si lo notas respira profundamente mientras [email protected] o [email protected] escaneas tu cuerpo y dejas ir.
Nota tu tenencia a sobre analizar las cosas como para tener control sobre ellas y entiende cómo te hace sentir y cómo se siente en tu cuerpo. Mantente en tu meditación, respirando y soltando.
Luego llévate a una actividad en la que puedas mover tu cuerpo con intención a seguir respirando profundo, te ayudará a liberarte.

Con el tiempo entenderás claramente por qué te costaba moverte hacia adelante con tantos pesos psíquicos que ahora reconoces, agradeces por las lecciones y sueltas con gracia.
